Carson Shaw travels to Chicago in 1943 in order to audition for the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League. There, she meets other women who share her desire to play professional baseball and forms contacts that expand her horizons. Max Chapman, a resident of Rockford, also attends the tryouts but is rejected. In order to achieve her dream, she must construct a new route with the aid of her best friend Clance.
