Black Gold

The decade of the 1930s finds two warring leaders on the Arabian Peninsula coming face to face with one another. After defeating his competitor, Sultan Amar of Salmaah, Nesib, Emir of Hobeika, offers peace terms to his subjects. The two individuals come to the conclusion that neither can stake a claim to the territory that is considered to be no man's land between them and is known as The Yellow Belt. As a form of insurance against further incursion, Nesib takes Amar's two sons, Saleeh and Auda, into his own family. After a another twelve years, Saleeh and Auda had matured into young men. Saleeh, the warrior, has a strong desire to break free from his gilded prison and go back to the land of his father. Books and furthering one's education are the only things that interest Auda. One day, their adopted father Nesib is paid a visit by a person who hails from Texas in the United States. He assures the Emir that the oil on his property is a gift from God and promises him riches beyond anything he could have dreamed of having. Nesib envisions a land of limitless opportunities, a monarchy where the rich veins of ebony that lie buried beneath the arid sand fund the construction of highways, schools, and hospitals. There is only one issue to be concerned about. The Yellow Belt is the area that contains the valuable oil.
