Maria's Lovers

After surviving a Japanese POW camp, Ivan Bibic returns to his Pittsburgh suburb, where he has recurring nightmares. Throughout it all, he was dedicated to Maria Bosic, a fellow ethnic Yugoslavian virgin whom he had known since childhood. She dates him again, effectively ending her engagement to captain Al Griselli. They marry, despite Ivan's father's objections. Ivan, on the other hand, has become psychologically impotent, feels unworthy of her, and begins to wander, even looking for a new girlfriend. Meanwhile, in South-Western Pennsylvania, charming guitar-and-song-busker Clarence Butts seduces Maria.
