The Girl

Alfred Hitchcock is widely regarded as one of cinema's most inventive geniuses. Hitchcock's starring females were cool, gorgeous, and preferably blonde, and he was known for his psychological thrillers. Tippi Hedren, an unknown fashion model who got her big break when Hitchcock's wife saw her in a TV commercial, was one of these actresses. Hedren was brought to Universal Studios and was surprised when the director, at the height of his career, cast her in his next film, 1963's The Birds. Hedren had no idea that the most difficult component of the project, as ambitious and dangerous as it was to shoot, would come from behind the camera.
