American Gladiators is a competitive television show that aired on NBC in the United States and Citytv in Canada. The show, hosted by Hulk Hogan and Laila Ali, pits amateur athletes against one another and the show's own "gladiators" in strength, agility, and endurance competitions. It's a recreation of the same-named original series from 1989 to1996, plus parts from the UK version from the 1990s. Al Kaplon, a former American League umpire who also appears in Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story, serves as the show's referee. Van Earl Wright provides play-by-play commentary. Season one was shot in Culver City, California at Sony Pictures Studios. The show relocated to the Los Angeles Sports Arena in Season 2. Reveille Productions and MGM Television are the producers. The two-hour premiere of American Gladiators was watched by an average of 12 million people on Sunday, January6, 2008. Except for the finale, which aired Sunday, February17, 2008 at 7:00 ET/PT, all subsequent Season 1 episodes aired Mondays at 8:00 ET/PT. Season 2 began on NBC on May12,2008, with a two-hour show. On August4,2008, at 8:00 ET/PT, the two-hour Season 2 finale aired. While Season 1's last two-hour program was solely dedicated to the finals, Season 2's finale featured the third semifinal round followed by the finals.
