Azumanga Daioh

'Azumanga Daioh,' by Japanese comic artist Kiyohiko Azuma, is a comedic work. MediaWorks published it in the shnen manga magazine Dengeki Daioh from 1999 to 2002 and it was compiled in four bound volumes. Three new chapters of Azumanga Daioh: Supplementary Lessons began serialization in Shogakukan's Monthly Shnen Sunday in May 2009 to commemorate the manga's tenth anniversary. The manga follows the life of a group of girls for three years as high school friends in a series of vertical four-panel comic strips called yonkoma. Kiyohiko Azuma has been hailed as a "master of the four-panel form" for both his art style and comic timing in the series, which has been commended for its humor driven by oddball characters. Azumanga Daioh: the Animation was made into an anime television series that aired from the week of April 8 to the week of September30, 2002. A total of 130 five-minute portions were broadcast on the TV Tokyo network and AT-X every weekday, then repeated as a 25-minute compilation on the weekend, for a total of 26 episodes. Starchild Records distributed the compilations as DVDs and UMDs, and each of the five-minute episodes has a unique title. As well as three Azumanga Daioh video games, several soundtrack CDs were published.
