Norihiro Yagi wrote and drew the Claymore manga series, which is a dark fantasy story. The first episode came out in the May 2001 issue of Monthly Shnen Jump, which is no longer in print. When the magazine stopped coming out in June 2007, the series moved for a while to Weekly Shnen Jump, where it was still published every month. In November 2007, Jump Square came out, and the series was moved there. Shueisha puts out tankbon volumes with each chapter. As of December 2012, 23 volumes had been released. The first eleven books of the series were turned into a 26-episode anime series by Madhouse. The first episode of the series, which Hiroyuki Tanaka directed, aired on NTV in Japan on April 3, 2007, and it ran until September 25, 2007. On July 25, 2007, the CD soundtrack for the anime series came out. On September 27, 2007, the CD of character songs with the anime voice actresses came out. Viz Media has the rights to make an English-language version of the Claymore manga for North America. It put out the first book in the series on April 4, 2006, and as of November 6, 2012, it has put out 21 books. Funimation Entertainment has the rights to release the anime version in North America. They put out the first DVD in the fall of 2008 and the whole series on Blu-ray in the spring of 2010. Madman Entertainment has a license to show the anime in Australia and New Zealand, and Manga Entertainment has a sub-license to show the anime in the UK.
