Degrassi Junior High

Degrassi Junior High is a teen drama series produced by CBC Television in Canada from 1987 to 1989 as part of the Degrassi series. The show followed the lives of a group of students at the titular fictitious high school. Many episodes addressed sensitive topics such as drug use, child abuse, adolescent pregnancy, homosexuality, homophobia, racism, and divorce, and the series was praised for its sensitive and realistic portrayal of adolescent life's challenges. The cast was mostly made up of amateur actors, which added to the show's sense of realism. Many of the actors who had appeared in The Kids of Degrassi Street a few years earlier appeared in the series, including Stacie Mistysyn, Neil Hope, Anais Granofsky, Sarah Charlesworth, and others. However, because their character names and family situations were changed, Degrassi Junior High cannot be considered a direct spinoff. Stephen Stohn, who later became the executive producer of Degrassi: The Next Generation, served as the legal counsel for all of the episodes. The show was shot at the decommissioned Vincent Massey Public School in Etobicoke, Ontario.
