Rocko's Modern Life

Joe Murray developed the animated series Rocko's Modern Life. Between 1993 and1996, the show aired on Nickelodeon for four seasons. The strange, parodic adventures of an anthropomorphic, Australian-immigrant wallaby named Rocko and his new existence in the city of O-Town are the focus of Rocko's Modern Life. The show delves into his life in America as well as the lives of his buddies, including the gluttonous steer Heffer, the neurotic turtle Filburt, and Rocko's loyal dog, Spunky. The show contains mature humor, such as double entendres, innuendos, and sarcastic societal criticism. In the late 1980s, Joe Murray created the title character for an unpublished comic book series, and subsequently hesitantly submitted the project to Nickelodeon, which was looking for edgier cartoonists for their new Nicktoons block. The network offered the writers a lot of creative license, and they wrote for both kids and adults. The animation in the program is characterized by crooked architecture. Murray also cast numerous novice voice performers, such as Tom Kenny and Carlos Alazraqui, who went on to become quite popular. The fourth Nicktoon to air was this one. "Rocko's Modern Life was just one of those shows that were the first break for a lot of folks who went on to do other stuff in the business," Kenny said in an interview.
