The Day Today

The Day Today is a surreal British spoof of current affairs television shows that premiered in 1994 and was devised by comedians Armando Iannucci and Chris Morris. It is an adaption of the BBC Radio 4 show On the Hour, which aired between 1991 and 1992. Morris, Iannucci, Steven Wells, Andrew Glover, Stewart Lee, Richard Herring, David Quantick, and the cast wrote On the Hour. Peter Baynham joined the writing team for The Day Today, and Lee and Herring were replaced by Graham Linehan and Arthur Mathews. On the Hour's main cast was kept for The Day Today. The Day Today is made up of six half-hour programs plus a variety of shorter, five-minute slots that serve as promotion trailers for the longer pieces. The six half-hour episodes aired on BBC2 from January 19 to February 23, 1994. Morris won the British Comedy Award for Best Newcomer in 1994 for The Day Today. All six episodes are now available on BBC DVD after being released on VHS.
