Witchblade

The American comic book of the same name served as the inspiration for the anime series Witchblade. The producers decided against making an adaptation of the original story and instead came up with an entirely new premise and cast of characters to go along with it. This work was created in collaboration by the Japanese studio Gonzo and the American publishing company Top Cow, which is authorized for distribution in the United States. Top Cow is the owner of the rights to the Witchblade series. In January of2008, the English dubbed version made its debut on the cable television network IFC in the United States. IFC broadcast the show on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 3:30 AM Eastern Time (ET), and the series finale was broadcast on IFC on June13, 2008. Additionally, users of Xbox Live and PlayStation Network can pay to download episodes of the show after watching them online. Downloads of the first twelve episodes can also be obtained through the Unbox service offered by Amazon.com. The show is also accessible via the Instant Streaming service provided by Netflix. As of the month of June in2011, it could be accessed for free on Hulu. The first volume was made available on DVD in September2007, and as of December2008, there were a total of six volumes available for purchase in the United States and Canada. There is also a complete boxed set available, which includes all 24 episodes as well as an additional disc with bonus content. On November3,2009, a Blu-ray box set was made available to the public. Yoshimitsu Ohashi, who also directed Galaxy Angel and Galaxy Angel Z, was in charge of directing the anime, and Uno Makoto, who was also the character designer for Stellvia and Love Hina, was in charge of designing the cast of characters.
